Roane Baptist Church
Corsicana, Navarro County · Texas
Roane grew from a neighborhood school. The Handbook of Texas says the area was first settled in the early 1840s and that a school called Post Oak School was running about the time of the Civil War. A post office opened in 1892 and took the name Roane at the suggestion of a resident, Will Holland. The first gin followed in 1893, and in 1906 a four-teacher school enrolled 153. By 1914 the town had three general stores, two blacksmith shops, two churches and about 150 people.
