Rancho San Andrés Castro Adobe
Watsonville, Santa Cruz County · California
No state plaque has been photographed here; the only sign on record at the site is a printed board from the restoration years. The two-story adobe was built in 1849 and 1850 by Indigenous laborers for Juan José and Rita Pinto Castro, and its upstairs fandango room hosted parties said to last for days. The 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake nearly brought it down. Owners Edna and Joe Kimbro campaigned from 1996 to save it, the state bought it in 2002, and after years of volunteer rebuilding it opened to visitors in 2024.
