Rabbit Creek Hotel Monument

The register calls this a monument to the Rabbit Creek Hotel, and the only thing standing is a 1996 Clampers bronze on a brick pier. Eli Lester's building of 1852 was the first in town, a hotel, trading post and two barns, and the town around it was renamed La Porte in 1857, moved into Plumas County by a boundary change in 1866, and burned in 1855, 1861, 1868, 1871 and 1905. Nothing of Lester's house came through that. A 1928 parlors' tablet about the emigrant trail stands a short walk southwest.
