Pony Express Station
Platte County · Wyoming
Erected by Pony Express Trail Association, 2004
The steel post calls this Centre Star, and the National Park Service's study of the route gives it four names: Nine Mile, Sand Point, Ward's and Central Star. They pile up from its uses. In the 1840s Ward and Guerrier kept the Sand Point trading post here, and in the 1850s Jules Coffee ran a stage station, which the Pony Express used as a relay stop in 1860 and 1861. The post is one of Joe Nardone's: the Pony Express historian set stainless poles at stations he located from the records, and later granite monuments.
