Plummer Park and Oldest House in Hollywood
Calabasas, Los Angeles County · California
Erected by Daughters of the American Revolution, 1956
Francisca Perez was living on this land under preemption law by 1869, before the Plummers homesteaded 160 acres of it beside Rancho La Brea in 1874. Eugene Plummer went by Eugenio and kept the manners of an old Californio don, though his father was a sea captain born in Canada. He sold the ranch off in pieces as Hollywood came up around it, and the county bought the last three acres in 1937 and let him stay until he died. The house left in 1983, hauled twenty miles west to Calabasas ahead of the wreckers.
