Historical Marker
Plainview Cemetery and Memorial Park
Plainview, Hale County · Texas
Erected 2012
The plaque marks a designation, not a history. The Texas Historical Commission has granted the Historic Texas Cemetery designation since 1998 to protect burial grounds by documenting their locations and legal boundaries, recording them in county deed records and on online maps; many cemeteries get deed research and mapping for the first time in the process. The designation does not by itself bring a historical marker, though it is the first step toward one. Four of Plainview's own markers, for Edwin L. Lowe, Emma Grigsby Meharg, R. P. Smyth and Jeff Williams, stand in this cemetery.
