The Overland Stage Station Route (Green River)
Sweetwater County · Wyoming
Erected by Historical Landmark Commission of Wyoming, 1952
Three hundred and fifty yards east puts the station on the south bank, behind today's Game and Fish office on Astle Avenue, where Overlook Park now marks it. Its stone building, corrals, outbuildings and cemetery were the seed of Green River, though the settlement that grew into the town, called Adobe Town or Old Town, rose across the river on a homestead. Coaches forded the river below the station; the next stops were Lonetree, about twelve miles west, and Rock Springs to the east. The stone's 1861 is a year early: the line came south in 1862.
