Montana's Jurassic Park
Sweet Grass County · Montana
The panel's young Diplodocus stuck crossing rivers come from a site it never names: the Mother's Day Quarry near Bridger in Carbon County, found on Mother's Day in 1994. It has yielded more than 2,500 fossils from at least fifteen juveniles and subadults, patches of skin, and in 2010 a skull about nine and a half inches long. The published reading differs from the panel's. Drought most likely killed the group, young animals apparently living apart from adults, and a muddy flow after heavy rain buried the carcasses soon after death.
