Ted Flaxman, the local architect, said the European modernist Erich Mendelsohn shaped his thinking, above all Mendelsohn's curved forms. The Werner Company built the two-story brick building at 1805 Creswell Avenue in 1937. It first counted as a contributing property when the Highland Historic District was designated on February 19, 1987, and it was listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places on June 10, 1991. It stands on a lot of less than an acre in the Highland neighborhood.
