Centenary College of Louisiana
Shreveport, Caddo County · Louisiana
Erected 1970
The plaque stops at the founding; the Shreveport campus has a history of its own. The Centenary College Choir formed in 1941 and later toured nationally and abroad. In 1942 the college took over Dodd College, a junior college for women, which became a pre-flight training site for Air Force cadets. In the 1920s and 1930s the football team beat Baylor, LSU, Rice, SMU and Texas A&M, and the sport returned in 2024. The Gold Dome, a geodesic arena seating 3,000, was finished in 1971. Both Confederate and Union troops had occupied the earlier campus at Jackson.
