Marshall's Blacksmith Shop

Kelsey, El Dorado County · California

Nothing marks this. Marshall built a blacksmith shop on the Gray Eagle Mine property in 1872 and 1873 and worked it until he died in Kelsey in 1885, which makes this the site of thirteen years of his life against the one morning at Coloma that everything else commemorates. He was a carpenter by trade and a smith by necessity. The register lists the landmark and records no plaque; a chimney is what stands. He was buried here first, outside the cemetery, before Coloma claimed him.
