Manti Bell Tower
Manti, Sanpete County · Utah
Erected by NA, 1988
The bell in this tower has outlived two schoolhouses. Forged in 1892, it first hung in Manti's one-room North Ward rock schoolhouse, then moved to the Old Red Schoolhouse that stood a few blocks south from 1894 to 1936. When that building came down the bell survived, and in 1989 the town raised this tower to hold it. It rings now below the white spires of the Manti Temple — a small monument to the pioneer habit of calling children to their lessons by hand across a valley.
