Majestic Hotel
Lake Charles, Calcasieu County · Louisiana
Erected 1906
Lake Charles burned on April 23, 1910, and the fire took much of downtown, including the 1890 courthouse. The Majestic, opened in 1906 at Pujo and Bilbo, came through on the strength of its own water system. The hotel kept its place afterward, and local accounts say its guests included Harry Houdini, the Eisenhowers and the Kennedys. It was razed for parking in 1965. Two months after the fire, the old Calcasieu Parish was divided into five parishes.
