Home of Wellborn Barton
Salado, Bell County · Texas
Erected 1936
The house the plaque names is a stone building cut into a Salado hillside, and its masonry is the point. The walls are quarry-faced limestone laid as ashlar, the door sits off center, and a wing projects, which was unusual for a house of 1866. The National Register of Historic Places listed it in 1983, partly for the skill of the stonework. It was built as the home of an early Salado doctor, and John Hendrickson, the contractor the plaque names, is credited as its builder.
