Friendship Circle
Hammond, Tangipahoa County · Louisiana
Four-year status came to Southeastern without a budget. Bachelor's degrees were approved in 1937 and the first were awarded in 1939, and Act 388 of 1938 gave the college the same legal standing as other state four-year colleges but no added funding. Federal New Deal relief money, according to the marker, helped pay for the buildings of 1939 to 1941 that the circle's landscape frames. Accreditation followed in 1946, and in 1970 the school became Southeastern Louisiana University.
