First Baptist Church of Kerrville
Kerrville, Kerr County · Texas
Erected 1988
Texas Baptists of the church's early decades took up public causes. They backed the Anti-Saloon League when it reached Texas in 1907, and its presidents through 1918 were prominent Baptists. In 1908 the Baptist General Convention of Texas urged members to become politically active, and in 1915 it formed a Social Service Committee to look at labor and capital, landlords and tenants, and prison and child welfare. In 1950 the convention formed the Christian Life Commission, and in 1961 it united with the Mexican Baptist Convention of Texas.
