Don Salvio Pacheco Adobe
Concord, Contra Costa County · California
The family named the town and lost the name. In 1868 Salvio Pacheco, his son Fernando and son-in-law Francisco Galindo had twenty acres around this house surveyed as Todos Santos, then offered lots free to the merchants of Pacheco, a slough port wrecked by fire, flood and the 1868 earthquake. By April 1869 the Contra Costa Gazette was congratulating the residents of Concord, and Fernando's protests changed nothing. The register calls the adobe the valley's first building, finished June 24, 1835; the city's bronze on the wall says circa 1846. No state plaque stands here.
