City of Broussard
Broussard, Lafayette County · Louisiana
The Old Spanish Trail was a promoter's road before it was a highway. Its backers ran the project from San Antonio, where an executive committee of businessmen met weekly at the Gunter Hotel, and the route grew to almost 2,750 miles across eight states and 67 counties. It entered Louisiana by ferry at Logtown and replaced State Route 2. By 1927 much of the trail had become US 90 and US 80. Broussard's own tie is recent: the town became an official Old Spanish Trail city in 2019.
