Site of Casa de Cota
San Diego, San Diego County · California
California registered this adobe as a landmark on December 6, 1932, and within about ten years it was gone. Juan Cota had built the small gable-ended house around 1835. It was photographed sagging in the 1920s and stood empty after that. Accounts differ on whether it finally fell down or was bulldozed by the Army during the war. Either way the corner is a parking lot now, and the only thing marking the landmark is a painted sign carrying its number.
