Camp Adair

Benton County · Oregon

The board has Adair killed while chasing Pancho Villa. The men who killed him were Mexican government soldiers. On June 21, 1916, Captain Charles Boyd led two troops of the 10th Cavalry, the Black regiment Adair had served in for his whole career, to the town of Carrizal, where Carrancista troops confronted them. In the fight that followed Boyd and Adair were killed with ten of their men, and twenty-four troopers were taken prisoner. For days the two countries stood near war. Adair was the Oregonian whose name the army chose in March 1942.
