Bozeman Trail
Buffalo, Johnson County · Wyoming
Erected by State of Wyoming, 1914
The state set this stone at Crazy Woman Crossing in 1914, the year after the place lost its mail. August Trabing opened a store here in 1878 for travelers on the reopened road, the first in what became Johnson County, and road agents robbed it three times that fall; in 1879 he moved the business north to Clear Creek, where Buffalo was starting. His log building stayed on as a stage station and post office, Trabing City from January 1879 and plain Trabing from 1880, until the office closed on December 13, 1913.
