A 3D Viewing Device
Josephine County · Oregon
The board's meeting at the Chateau came on a honeymoon: William Gruber and his new wife, Norma, were staying at the lodge in 1938. He was a German-born organ maker and piano tuner, and his German ties soon caught up with him. After the viewer's debut at the 1939 New York World's Fair, he was sent to Idaho under suspicion of espionage, his assets frozen, while the armed forces the board mentions bought more than 10,000 viewers and six million reels. He later returned to Portland. He never liked the name, which he thought sounded like a kitchen appliance.
