Woodruff County Courthouse
Augusta, Woodruff County · Arkansas
Erected 1998
Woodruff County's legal birth was untidy. The county was established on November 26, 1862, from parts of Arkansas and Lawrence counties and named for William Woodruff, editor of the Arkansas Gazette, but wartime confusion forced a second approval in 1865. In 1901 the county appropriated $44,000 to build two courthouses at once, one here and a district courthouse at Cotton Plant for the south end. Charles L. Thompson drew the plans for both. McCrory briefly had a courthouse of its own, but county business was eventually consolidated at Augusta.
