Welcome to Dinosaur Country
Wibaux County · Montana
The panel's burrowing dinosaur was found in its own den. Near the Lima Peaks in Beaverhead County, at the other end of the state, the mid-Cretaceous Blackleaf Formation gave up a sediment-filled burrow with two turns, ending in a chamber that held an adult and two juveniles about 55 to 65 percent its size, some 95 million years old. David Varricchio, Anthony Martin and Yoshihiro Katsura named it Oryctodromeus, digging runner, in 2007: the first trace and body fossil evidence of a burrowing dinosaur, and strong evidence of parental care.
