Turkey Track Ranch
Payne County · Oklahoma
Erected by Oklahoma Historical Society, 1995
Cushing rose on the ranch's roundup ground, and a trader picked the spot. William Little, called Billy Rae, had been a government trader for the Sac and Fox and chose a townsite before the 1891 run; afterward he built a house to hold his claim and laid out lots. The post office opened on November 10, 1891, named for Marshall Cushing, secretary to Postmaster General John Wanamaker. When the railroad came in 1902, two promoters loaded the post office on skids on the night of September 13 and moved it half a mile to their addition by the depot.
