Trinity Episcopal Church
Dublin, Erath County · Texas
Erected 1972
The bishop who found Dublin's only Episcopalian had lived widely first. According to the Handbook of Texas, Alexander Charles Garrett was born in County Sligo in 1832 and studied at Trinity College, Dublin. Ordained in 1856, he served a Hampshire parish, then in 1859 went to British Columbia as pastor, doctor, lawyer and teacher among Whites and Indians, in the Handbook's terms. San Francisco and Omaha followed. Chosen in 1874 as bishop of the new missionary district of northern Texas, he founded St. Mary's College in 1889, went blind, and died in Dallas in 1924.
