Three Rivers
Three Rivers, Live Oak County · Texas
Erected 1967
The town's first name came from a woman's land. In 1913 Annie T. Hamilton paid the San Antonio, Uvalde and Gulf Railroad to build a depot on her property, and the place became Hamiltonburg. Mail kept going to Hamilton, Texas, so residents asked for a new name, and Charles R. Tips, who had organized the townsite company, suggested one drawn from the river forks. The post office department approved Three Rivers on May 1, 1914, and the town incorporated in 1926. Natural gas found nearby in 1920 was piped into town, and a small refinery followed.
