Historical Marker · No. 697
Site of the Ingalls Homestead 1880
Kingsbury County · South Dakota
Erected by South Dakota Dept. of History
This small sign at Homestead Road and Rose Lane, about a quarter mile north of the 1958 bronze on its boulder, is cast aluminum, four lines and an arrow beside the Dakota Territorial seal. Its lettering stands up from a sand mold, and the maker's mark in the corner reads Sewah Studios, the Marietta, Ohio, foundry E. M. Hawes founded in 1927 and named with his own name spelled backward. The firm pours molten aluminum into sand impressions of each sign and has turned out more than 100,000 markers. The year cast here is that of Pa's filing.
