Site of Old Sacramento
Phelps County · Nebraska
A. T. Andreas's 1882 history places Sacramento in the southeastern part of Phelps County on the high upland prairie, with about seventy-five people and the branches of a country trade well represented, and calls it a thriving place for one so far from a railroad. He lists it among seven post offices in the county, with Rock Falls, Phelps Center, Williamsburg, Industry, Integrity and Highland. A Sacramento post office ran from 1879 until 1944. The name was likely taken from Sacramento, California, according to Fitzpatrick and Link's Nebraska Place-Names.
