Siloa Cemetery

Hamilton County · Nebraska
Erected by The Carl Chader Memorial; Aurora Evangelical Covenant Church; and Nebraska State Historical Society, 2015

Burr and Buck's 1921 county history fills in the neighborhood. Its Monroe Precinct roster lists Swan Anderson from Princeton, Illinois, in 1883, Swan Youngquest from Illinois in 1880, K. P. Swanson from Sweden in 1880 and from Illinois in 1881, and John Blixt and P. Skokesburg straight from Sweden in 1877 and 1880. The same book's account of Aurora's Swedish Evangelical Mission church, begun in private houses in 1884 with two or three Swedish families in town, names G. Norseen 'from Siloa' among the visiting ministers before the Aurora congregation incorporated in 1904.

What the plaque says

Siloa Cemetery Swedish immigrants, known as Mission Friends, moved from Princeton, Illinois, to Monroe Precinct, Hamilton County, in 1880-82. They organized the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Mission congregation at S.P. Swenson's home in February 1883 and affiliated with the Mission Covenant in 1885. A building was erected in 1890 and a parsonage in 1893. The first pastor was Rev. C.M. Youngquist, 1883-89. The final service was in the summer of 1935. The building was later razed and the materials used to build a Covenant church in Hastings, Nebraska.
