Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church
Clarksville, Red River County · Texas
Erected 1936
Pat B. Clark's 1937 county history says the congregation first met under a large oak four miles northeast of Clarksville, with James Latimer among the pioneers who joined Milton Estill. The first building was hewed and split logs. Clark says Sam Corley came from Rutherford County, Tennessee, in 1840 as first pastor of Shiloh and nearby churches, and that the first Red River Presbytery met in December 1842, with Corley as clerk. Clark credits Estill with organizing the first presbytery in Texas at Clarksville.
