Ryan Chapel
Diboll vicinity, Angelina County · Texas
Erected 1964
Brothers Isaac and John Ryan came from Copiah County, Mississippi, and in September 1865 their families settled a 400-acre tract near Ryan Lake called the Old Ryan Field. They chose the church site believing it was theirs, but it lay slightly north, on Guinn land, and the Guinns later deeded land to the church at no cost. The congregation had an organ by about 1902, bought a mail-order bell in 1907 for $13.60, and paid for a piano in 1927-1928 with two cotton crops. The present church, from 1937, is the fourth on the site.
