Round Table Inn
Burkeville, Newton County · Texas
Erected 1965
The table gave the inn its name. According to the Stephen F. Austin State University Heritage Center, a rotating Lazy Susan was built in 1895 from cedar trees on the property and seated a dozen. The restaurant's reputation rested on chicken, beef, ham, fish when available, country vegetables, home-canned goods, and homemade pie, cake and bread. It drew customers from Texas and Louisiana, and business was good until the late 1920s, when the big revolving tables ended. The article says the inn operated for 35 years.
