Ron School
Harmon County · Oklahoma
Erected by Ron Alumni Association; Oklahoma Historical Society, 1999
Ron itself was never much of a town. The Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History counts it among Harmon County's former communities: at its peak Ron had the consolidated school, a cotton gin, a grocery store and a church, but never a railroad, a post office or a newspaper, and it is a ghost town now. Teacross, one of the four districts merged into it, took its name from the T-Cross Ranch of the 1880s and kept a post office from 1899 to 1911, twelve miles northeast of Hollis. The county once had forty-four school districts; by 1959 it had six.
