Roberto-Suñol Adobe

The bronze calls Roberto Balermino a native Californian; he was Ohlone, born around 1782 and baptized at Mission Santa Clara. In 1840 he asked for the league of land where he was born and raised and was granted half of it. The 1844 grant that made it permanent came with his certificate of emancipation. Three years later a $500 debt passed Rancho de los Coches to Antonio Suñol, who let the family stay on. Balermino's son, Juan Crisostoma, was the last of them on the ranch, and by Suñol's account he died in 1851.

The property was officially granted to him by Governor Micheltorena in 1844. A larger one-story dwelling was built in 1847 by the new owner, Antonio Suñol. The second-story frame structure and balcony were added in 1853 by Captain Stefano Splivalo. California Registered Historical Landmark No. 898 Plaque placed by the State Department of Parks and Recreation in cooperation with the Santa Clara County Historical Heritage Commission February 11, 1977. This property has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior
