Reeves County
Pecos, Reeves County · Texas
Erected 1936
Reeves County covers 2,626 square miles, flat and rolling in the north and mountainous in the far south, at elevations from 2,538 to 4,210 feet. The Barrilla Hills rise steeply 150 to 200 feet above the plain, and about 85 percent of the county is a broad, gently sloping plain of mountain outwash. Rain, about ten inches a year, gathers in shallow playas that come and go; the largest, Toyah Lake, is walled by cliffs ten to forty feet high. The Pecos drains the whole county.
