Pioneer Heritage Center
Shreveport, Caddo County · Louisiana
William Joseph Hutchinson built the Caspiana House in 1856 on his plantation at Caspiana, and his family gave it to LSUS in 1977, the first building the center received. It now stands among seven structures. The Thrasher House is a log dogtrot that Thomas Zilks built in 1850 and that was moved in 1981 from near Castor. The grounds also hold the Webb & Webb Commissary, a doctor's office, a detached kitchen set apart to reduce fire risk and a blacksmith shop. The center is open by appointment for groups, schools and events.
