Historical Marker
Old Overland Trail
Albany County · Wyoming
Erected by Jacques Laramie Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, 1911
The first in the county, and two years ahead of the state. The Jacques Laramie Chapter set this stone in 1911, when Wyoming's DAR chapters had only begun marking the old roads; the legislature created its Oregon Trail Commission only in 1913. The stage road the stone marks carried Overland coaches from 1862 until the railroad reached the Laramie Plains in 1868. More than a century on, the chapter still owns the marker and looks after it.
