O. P. Hanna Cabin Marker and Sundial
Sheridan County · Wyoming
Oliver Perry Hanna built a cabin on what became Hanna Creek in 1878, and the register records two objects here making two claims for it: the first cabin in northern Wyoming, and the first in what is now Sheridan County, dated August 11. Hanna had hunted buffalo and fought in the Indian wars before he settled, and when the herds were gone he went to Fort Laramie and back, some four hundred miles, for seed and a plow. He sold the ranch in 1880, kept a store at Big Horn, and was its postmaster from 1896 to 1900.
