Navajo Warrior Memorial
Window Rock, Apache County County · Arizona
Erected by Navajo Nation
Beside the Code Talkers stands a broader tribute: the Navajo Nation's memorial to all its warriors who died or went missing in the country's wars. Its dedication is plain, that they will never be forgotten, and will always be young in memory. The Diné have sent soldiers to every American conflict of the past century, often in numbers far out of proportion to their population, and the warrior remains a figure of deep respect in Navajo life. The memorial gathers those losses in one place at the Nation's capital, where families return to remember their own.
What the plaque says
In Remembrance of Our Warriors Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice and/or Missing in Action. They will never be forgotten and to us they will always be young in our thoughts.
