Mounds Plantation
Sentell, Caddo County · Louisiana
These mounds are known mostly through their pottery. Clarence Webb and Ralph McKinney published the site report in 1975 in Louisiana Archaeology. Jeffery Girard returned in 2012 with test pits at Mound 2 and Mound 6, soil probes and a test unit, and Mound 2 gave 691 sherds, most of them plain. The decorated pieces include Coles Creek Incised, Belcher Ridged and Hollyknowe Pinched types, the kinds archaeologists use to place a site in time and tradition. The marker stands beside the highway; this entry gives no route to the mounds.
