Moro in the Civil War
Moro, Lee County · Arkansas
Erected 2012
Moro in the war was a crossroads village that did not outlast its century. The Encyclopedia of Arkansas says Old Moro grew up where military roads linking Helena and Little Rock met in 1835, never held more than about 200 people, and was destroyed by a tornado in December 1900 that killed three. It was never rebuilt. A second Moro began in 1907 along the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad nearby. Residents later reported that both Confederate and Union troops had looted the old village, and the railroad that made the new town was abandoned in 1952.
