Mission San Juan Bautista and Plaza

No state plaque stands at the mission. The two Daughters of the American Revolution bronzes on the fence corner, from 1969 and 1997, were gone by 2023, and like the routed wooden board on the grounds they never mention the Mutsun people held here from 1797 and made to build the church. In December 2012 the bishop of Monterey said a Mass of Reconciliation here and apologized to the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, their descendants. The tribal council chose to acknowledge the apology rather than accept it, saying actions had to follow.
