Zapata, Zapata County · Texas
Erected 1936
Revilla, now Guerrero, Tamaulipas, was the mother town of this stretch of the Texas bank. Vicente Guerra founded it on October 10, 1750, twenty leagues northwest of Camargo. Families from Revilla crossed the river to make Carrizo, San Ygnacio and Ramireño, and San Ygnacio took its name from Revilla's patron saint, Ignatius Loyola. José Luis Ramírez lived in Revilla until 1810 before building his sandstone house in Texas. In 1913 the revolution drove many Guerrero landowners the other way, across the river into Zapata County.
