Lordsburg-Hidalgo Library

Lordsburg, Hidalgo County · New Mexico

The library had an earlier start than the panel gives: the Lordsburg Women's Club established it in 1919, and for years it moved among rooms in other public buildings and houses. The building Mrs. Fuller raised money for went up in 1936 and 1937 as a WPA cost-sharing project with the town and county, a single-story adobe with vigas carrying the roof, about 3,057 square feet, that at first also housed the health department and the justice of the peace. Apart from an enclosed courtyard it is little changed. It joined the National Register on February 4, 2004.
