Lone Star Mill
Clements, San Joaquin County · California
Erected by Clements 4-H Club, 1950
No state plaque stands here; the Clements 4-H Club set this stone in 1950. The register fills in the partner the children left as a surname: the mill stood on the ranch of Hodge and David S. Terry, the state supreme court justice who shot Senator David Broderick dead in 1859 and was himself shot dead at the Lathrop depot thirty years later. Stillman Magee bought the mill in 1860 and ran it for twenty-five years, until the business gave out. The park that holds its site carries his name.
