La Purisima Mission

No state bronze stands at the mission. Two point at it from the road instead — one three miles out on Harris Grade, this one a mile short of the gate — each cast with an arrow and the same paragraph by the Division of Highways. They date from the years of the work: what the bronze calls the only complete mission in California is a reconstruction, raised by Civilian Conservation Corps crews between 1934 and 1941 on fragments of the old walls and dedicated on December 7, 1941, the ceremony interrupted by news from Pearl Harbor.
What the plaque says
1 Mile La Purisima Mission Established, December 8, 1787, by Father Lasuen. Damaged by earthquake, 1812; removed from control of Franciscans, abandoned 1834. State and National Park Service restoring major and many small structures, and water system. Only example in California of complete mission. State historical monument. Historical Landmark No. 340 Department of Public Works - Division of Highways
