Kansas City Southern Depot
DeQuincy, Calcasieu County · Louisiana
Erected 1986
DeQuincy exists because of rails. The town was founded in 1897, once the Calcasieu, Vernon and Shreveport line and Arthur Stilwell's Kansas City, Shreveport and Gulf were both finished here. The depot of 1923 now holds the DeQuincy Railroad Museum, begun in 1974, with artifacts from the Kansas City Southern, Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific. The National Register table counts it among three urban depots left in Louisiana. Each April, on the second weekend, Louisiana Railroad Days fills the grounds with trains and visitors.
