In the Event of an Attack: The Montana Missile Field

The panel's Cuban Missile Crisis has a date. On October 24, 1962, Boeing's crew handed launch facility Alpha-06 to the 10th Missile Squadron, and on October 27, as the crisis peaked, the first Minuteman in the Malmstrom field came on alert at Alpha-01. President Kennedy is remembered calling the new missiles his Ace in the Hole. A First Ace in the Hole clock at the base has counted upward from that day ever since, and the Air Force says Minuteman crews have stood alert without a break across the six decades between.
