Hyde Memorial State Park

Santa Fe, Santa Fe County · New Mexico

The devoted educator of the panel had an earlier career it leaves out. Benjamin Talbot Babbitt Hyde and his brother Frederick paid for the Hyde Exploring Expedition, which dug Pueblo Bonito at Chaco Canyon from 1896 to 1899 and shipped its finds to the American Museum of Natural History; in 1900 the Santa Fe historical society denounced its spoliation of ruins. Settled in Santa Fe, Hyde turned to the Boy Scouts and outdoor lectures. His widow gave the land after his death, and the park joined the National Register in 2021.
